It has been an incredibly busy and productive time for our team on the ground here in Kenya! We wanted to take a moment to share some massive updates on our current projects and celebrate the incredible milestones we are reaching together.
Here is a look at what we have been up to this week:
- Finishing Touches and Future Homes: We brought over, painted, and installed new window shutters for the houses our teams constructed earlier this year in January. Seeing these homes fully finished and lived in is a beautiful reminder of why we do this. We also headed into town to procure materials for our next batch of new home building kits!
- A Huge Expansion to Our Lunch Program: We are thrilled to announce a massive milestone! We have officially selected 20 additional schools to join our primary school lunch support program for the entire year. This adds about 10,000 more students to the program, bringing our grand total to roughly 50 schools and 25,000 children fed every single day! Ensuring these kids have a reliable, nutritious meal is vital to keeping them healthy and focused on their education.
- Partnering for Play: We had a great meeting with our local Kenyan welder to contract the construction of new playground equipment. Thanks to this partnership, we will be adding playgrounds to 15 different schools from one end of Kenya to the other. Working with local tradesmen is a core part of our mission to invest in the local economy and create producers, all while bringing joy to thousands of students.
After a long week of travel, meetings, and hard work, the team finally took a brief moment to relax, watch the monkeys, and let the “natural lawn mowers” (the local grazing animals!) do their work.
None of this incredible progress would be possible without the continued generosity of our donors and volunteers back home. Whether you have packed a container in Wisconsin, sewn a reusable pad, or made a financial donation, YOU are making this happen.
We appreciate all of our Helping Hands supporters. One love, always!
